Hyderabad Tour – Day 2 (16 April 2023) – Part 1

Time: 6 :10 AM • Location: Secunderabad Railway Station
After dozing off around 2:30 AM, I awoke at 6:10 AM. The train had already pulled into Secunderabad. My friend was up and ready. Meanwhile, our plan was to alight at Lingampalli Station. Our Hyderabad-based friend was waiting there for us, and we hopped on a bike with him—first stop: dropping him off at his place in Serilingampally, then onward with our day.

Location: Kondapur                                    Time: 8 :24 AM

Our first stop after getting off the train was a tea stall in Kondapur. The aroma of cardamom (elaichi) tea greeted us as we sat down. This became my first sip of the day — warm, soothing, and the perfect start. While sipping, we chatted. At exactly 8:35 AM, we began our bike ride. Since it was Sunday and also during Ramadan, our friend suggested heading to the famed Chor Bazaar. Excited, we set off, not entirely sure what the day held.

The Metropolis of Hyderabad:Being here feels different. Having spent months in Hyderabad before, I realised this time I was seeing more: high-rises, broad roads, and a sense of constant motion. Every small shop, every business seemed to be pushing ahead. Compared to my experiences in Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad felt perhaps two decades ahead. These are just my impressions, but it’s clear: this city welcomes ambition and growth.

In the meantime, feeling hungry, we were driving around looking for a tiffin shop to grab a quick bite. We saw a crowd gathered at one place and thought there might be some kind of trouble, but it turned out to be a food stall. Seeing so many people there, I figured the food must be good. When I looked at the menu, I was surprised to see that they only had puris, idlis, and upma. So, I ordered a plate of puris.

Place: Moosapet                                        Time: 9:08 AM

There were 4 puris on the plate and they served it with a side of potato curry. The taste was quite different but very, very good. And the best part is that the plate of puris was only 30 rupees. Both my stomach and heart were full, and I happily started my day again. After having breakfast, we went to the Sunday market in Sanath Nagar as we had planned

Place: Sanath Nagar                                   Time: 10:15 AM

When we went to the Sanath Nagar market, it was packed with people. We parked our bike and decided to explore the entire market. The market was filled with all sorts of noises. The honking of vehicles, music, chirping of birds, animal sounds, and the noise of electronic gadgets all combined to create a chaotic atmosphere.

We started from the middle of the market. After exploring the entire market, one thing became clear takeaway: if you have time and patience, you’ll find almost anything here at a bargain.

We had planned to spend only half an hour there, but we ended up wanting to buy something. Finally, I found a good tripod at a very low price. The same product was being sold at a higher price online. So I bought it immediately. My friend bought some clothes. We were completely exhausted after exploring the entire market.

It felt like everything I ate in the morning had already been digested. My friend asked, "Where should we go next, I'm hungry again?" We both agreed and left the crowd. When we came out of the market, it was 11:15 AM.

They inaugurated Dr. Ambedkar's statue a couple of days ago. Let's go there," we decided and started our journey.

Place: Tank Bund                                      Time: 11:50 AM

I've been to the Tank Bund four or five times since I was a kid, but this visit felt different. It had changed a lot. We first went to Prasad's IMAX, a local movie theater, and then headed to the Tank Bund. Ambedkar's statue was there, but we couldn't go inside.

A bit disappointed, we continued walking and saw the Buddha statue, the Parliament House model, and some other statues by the roadside. We also saw a few buildings. My friend was visiting Hyderabad for the first time, and he really liked the place.

The place we were about to go to was our favorite.

Let's find out more in Part 2.
